Kansas gave up a whopping 466 yards to rival Kansas State last week, who pounded the Jayhaws 59-21. But what seemed like an atrocious defensive effort was actually improvement.

From the defense not forcing enough turnovers to TiVo-ing Florida International football games to postgame handshakes, Mack Brown covered a lot of ground Tuesday. Here are 10 things on the Longhorn head coach's mind:

When a quarterback completes 80 percent of his passes and throws two touchdowns, why wouldn't his playing time dwindle until he spent an entire game with a headset instead of a helmet? When his teammates claim someone to be the vocal leader of the squad, why wouldn't that guy get benched? Why wouldn't being the younger brother of the NCAA's all-time wins leader translate into being shoved aside in favor a freshman?

That's exactly what Case McCoy did.

Texas has their two toughest games behind them and, not suprisingly, the Longhorns lost them both. Mack Brown's bunch put up a fight this week, but still fell to an Oklahoma-based top-ten opponent, this time losing to No. 6 Oklahoma State, 38-26. Here are a few things we learned from the game:

When Texas lost to Oklahoma last season, everything went downhill from there.

Sure, the Longhorns somehow found a way to win in Lincoln and give No. 5 Nebraska a satisfying farwell, but they lost five of their last seven games. Then again, Mykelle Thompson switched his jersey to No. 7 and promptly blocked a punt that was returned for a touchdown against Iowa State. Either way, here are seven tidbits from Monday's press conference.

Sabermetricians - a fancy term for an advanced baseball statisticians - came up with an interesting stat a few years ago.

It's called Wins Above Replacement, WAR for short. It's pretty self-explanatory. The number aims to measure exactly how many more wins a certain player produces than an average player at his position.

Unfortunately, football is not a sport that lends itself to statistical analysis as well as baseball does, but this WAR stat seems all to appropriate when it comes to Texas co-offensive coordinator Bryan Harsin.
